 श्री दुर्गा चालीसा 

नमो नमो दुर्गे सुख करनी। नमो नमो अम्बे दुःख हरनी॥
Namo Namo Durge Sukh Karni, Namo Namo Ambe Dukh Harni.
Salutations to you, O Durga, who grants happiness; salutations to you, O Amba, who removes sorrow.

निराकार है ज्योति तुम्हारी। तिहुँ लोक फैली उजियारी॥
Nirakaar hai jyoti tumhaari, Tihu lok phaili ujiyaari.
Your divine light is formless and spreads across all three worlds.

शशि ललाट मुख महाविशाला। नेत्र लाल भृकुटि विकराला॥
Shashi lalaat mukh maha-vishaala, Netra laal bhrikuti vikraala.
Moon-like forehead, grand face, and red eyes with fierce brows you have.

रूप मातु को अधिक सुहावे। दरश करत जन अति सुख पावे॥
Roop maatu ko adhik suhaave, Darsh karat jan ati sukh paave.
Your form, O Mother, is extremely beautiful; just seeing it fills the devotee with joy.

तुम संसार शक्ति लय कीना। पालन हेतु अन्न धन दीना॥
Tum sansaar shakti lay keena, Palan hetu ann dhan deena.
You are the energy behind creation and destruction, and you provide food and wealth for sustenance.

अन्नपूर्णा हुई जग पाला। तुम ही आदि सुन्दरी बाला॥
Annapurna hui jag paala, Tum hi aadhi sundari baala.
As Annapurna, you nourish the world; you are the primordial beautiful goddess.

प्रलयकाल सब नाशन हारी। तुम गौरी शिवशंकर प्यारी॥
Pralay kaal sab naashan haari, Tum Gauri Shivshankar pyaari.
You end the universe during destruction; you are Gauri, beloved of Shiva.

शिव योगी तुम्हरे गुण गावें। ब्रह्मा विष्णु तुम्हें नित ध्यावें॥
Shiv yogi tumhare gun gaavein, Brahma Vishnu tumhein nit dhyaavein.
Shiva and yogis sing your glories; Brahma and Vishnu meditate on you constantly.

रूप सरस्वती को तुम धारा। दे सुबुद्धि ऋषि-मुनिन उबारा॥
Roop Saraswati ko tum dhaara, De subuddhi rishi-munin ubaara.
You assume the form of Saraswati and bless sages with wisdom and salvation.

धरा रूप नरसिंह को अम्बा। प्रगट भईं फाड़कर खम्बा॥
Dhara roop Narasinh ko Amba, Pragat bhayin faadkar khamba.
You appeared as Narasimha and burst out of a pillar to protect your devotee.

रक्षा कर प्रह्लाद बचायो। हिरण्याक्ष को स्वर्ग पठायो॥
Raksha kar Prahlad bachaayo, Hiranyaksh ko swarg pathaayo.
You saved Prahlad from harm and sent the demon Hiranyaksha to heaven.

लक्ष्मी रूप धरो जग माहीं। श्री नारायण अंग समाहीं॥
Lakshmi roop dharo jag maahin, Shri Narayan ang samaahin.
You dwell in the world as Goddess Lakshmi and reside in the body of Lord Narayan.

क्षीरसिन्धु में करत विलासा। दयासिन्धु दीजै मन आसा॥
Ksheer-sindhu mein karat vilaasa, Daya-sindhu deeje man aasa.
You reside playfully in the ocean of milk; O ocean of compassion, please fulfill my desires.

हिंगलाज में तुम्हीं भवानी। महिमा अमित न जात बखानी॥
Hinglaaj mein tumhi Bhavaani, Mahima amit na jaat bakhaani.
You are the goddess of Hinglaj; your boundless glory cannot be described.

मातंगी अरु धूमावति माता। भुवनेश्वरी बगला सुख दाता॥
Matangi aru Dhoomavati Maata, Bhuvaneshwari Bagla sukh daata.
As Matangi and Dhoomavati, you bless your devotees; as Bhuvaneshwari and Baglamukhi, you bestow happiness.

श्री भैरव तारा जग तारिणी। छिन्न भाल भव दुःख निवारिणी॥
Shri Bhairav Taara jag taarini, Chhinn-Bhaal bhav dukh nivaarini.
As Bhairavi and Tara, you save the world and destroy worldly sorrow.

केहरि वाहन सोह भवानी। लांगुर वीर चलत अगवानी॥
Keheri vaahan soha Bhavaani, Langur veer chalat agvaani.
You look splendid riding a lion, with Lord Hanuman marching ahead of you.

कर में खप्पर-खड्ग विराजै। जाको देख काल डर भाजे॥
Kar mein khappar-khadag viraaje, Jaako dekh kaal dar bhaaje.
You hold a skull and sword in your hand, and even death flees in terror at your sight.

सोहै अस्त्र और त्रिशूला। जाते उठत शत्रु हिय शूला॥
Sohe astr aur trishoola, Jaate uthat shatru hiy shoola.
Your weapons and trident shine; at their sight, enemies feel sharp pain in their hearts.

नगर कोटि में तुम्हीं विराजत। तिहुंलोक में डंका बाजत॥
Nagar koti mein tumhi viraajat, Tihun lok mein danka baajat.
You reside in every fortress and your fame resounds through all three worlds.

शुम्भ निशुम्भ दानव तुम मारे। रक्तबीज शंखन संहारे॥
Shumbh Nishumbh daanav tum maare, Raktbeej shankhan sanhaare.
You destroyed the demons Shumbh and Nishumbh, and slayed Raktbeej with his multiplying powers.

महिषासुर नृप अति अभिमानी। जेहि अघ भार मही अकुलानी॥
Mahishasur nrip ati abhimaani, Jahi agh bhaar mahi akulani.
The arrogant king Mahishasur, whose sins burdened the earth, was destroyed by you.

रूप कराल कालिका धारा। सेन सहित तुम तिहि संहारा॥
Roop karaal Kaalika dhaara, Sen sahit tum tihi sanhaara.
Taking a fierce form as Kali, you annihilated him along with his army.

परी गाढ़ सन्तन पर जब-जब। भई सहाय मातु तुम तब तब॥
Pari gaadh santan par jab-jab, Bhayi sahaay maat tum tab-tab.
Whenever saints were in deep distress, you always came to their rescue.

अमरपुरी अरु बासव लोका। तब महिमा सब रहें अशोका॥
Amarpuri aru Baasav loka, Tab mahima sab rahein Ashoka.
Even in the realms of gods and sages, your fame removes all sorrow.

ज्वाला में है ज्योति तुम्हारी। तुम्हें सदा पूजें नर-नारी॥
Jwala mein hai jyoti tumhaari, Tumhein sadaa poojen nar-naari.
Your divine light burns within the sacred flames; men and women always worship you.

प्रेम भक्ति से जो यश गावै। दुःख दारिद्र निकट नहिं आवें॥
Prem bhakti se jo yash gaave, Dukh daaridra nikat nahin aave.
Those who sing your glories with love and devotion never suffer poverty or sorrow.

ध्यावे तुम्हें जो नर मन लाई। जन्म-मरण ताकौ छुटि जाई॥
Dhyaave tumhein jo nar man laai, Janm-maran taakau chhuti jaai.
One who meditates on you sincerely is freed from the cycle of birth and death.

जोगी सुर मुनि कहत पुकारी। योग न हो बिन शक्ति तुम्हारी॥
Yogi sur muni kahat pukaari, Yog na ho bin shakti tumhaari.
Even sages and yogis proclaim that yoga is impossible without your divine power.

शंकर आचारज तप कीनो। काम अरु क्रोध जीति सब लीनो॥
Shankar Aachaaraj tap keeno, Kaam aru krodh jeeti sab leeno.
Even Shankaracharya performed great penance and conquered lust and anger through your grace.

निशिदिन ध्यान धरो शंकर को। काहु काल नहिं सुमिरो तुमको॥
Nishidin dhyaan dharo Shankar ko, Kaahu kaal nahin sumiro tumko.
He meditated on Lord Shiva day and night but never once remembered you.

शक्ति रूप को मरम न पायो। शक्ति गई तब मन पछितायो॥
Shakti roop ko maram na paayo, Shakti gayi tab man pachhtaayo.
He couldn't understand your divine form, and when your power left, he repented deeply.

शरणागत हुई कीर्ति बखानी। जय जय जय जगदम्ब भवानी॥
Sharanaagat hui keerti bakhaani, Jai Jai Jai Jagadamba Bhavaani.
He surrendered to you and sang your glories: Victory to you, Mother of the Universe!

भई प्रसन्न आदि जगदम्बा। दई शक्ति नहिं कीन विलम्बा॥
Bhayi prasann Aadi Jagadamba, Deyi shakti nahin keen vilamba.
The primal Mother became pleased and immediately restored her divine power to him.

मोको मातु कष्ट अति घेरो। तुम्ह बिन कौन हरै दुःख मेरो॥
Moko maat kasht ati ghero, Tum bin kaun harai dukh mero.
Mother, I am surrounded by troubles; who else but you can take away my sorrow?

आशा तृष्णा निपट सतावे। मोह मदादिक सब विनशावै॥
Aasha trishna nipat sataave, Moh madaadik sab vinashaave.
Desires and cravings deeply trouble me; destroy my illusions, ego, and pride.

शत्रु नाश कीजै महारानी। सुमिरौं इकचित तुम्हें भवानी॥
Shatru naash keejai Maharani, Sumiroon ek-chit tumhein Bhavaani.
O Queen! Destroy my enemies — I remember you with full focus, O Bhavani.

  करो कृपा हे मातु दयाला। ऋद्धि-सिद्धि दे करहु निहाला॥
Karo kripaa hey maatu dayaala, Riddhi-siddhi de karahu nihaala.

 O Compassionate Mother, please bless me — grant me prosperity and spiritual powers.

जब लगि जियउं दया फल पाऊं। तुम्हरो यश मैं सदा सुनाऊं॥
Jab lagi jiyoon daya phal paaun, Tumharo yash main sadaa sunaun.
As long as I live, may I receive your grace and always sing your praises.

दुर्गा चालीसा जो नित गावै। सब सुख भोग परमपद पावै॥
Durga Chalisa jo nit gaave, Sab sukh bhog param pad paave.
Whoever sings this Durga Chalisa daily enjoys all pleasures and ultimately attains liberation.

देवीदास शरण निज जानी। करहु कृपा जगदम्ब भवानी॥
Devidas sharan nij jaani, Karahu kripaa Jagadamba Bhavaani.
Knowing himself as your devotee, Devidas pleads: O Mother of the Universe, please show your grace!
