Introduction

•  Shri Surya Chalisa is a 40-verse devotional hymn dedicated to Surya Dev, the Sun God – revered as the eternal source of life and cosmic energy.
•  It praises the divine radiance, strength, and healing powers of the Sun, essential for vitality, immunity, and overall well-being.
•  Reciting this Chalisa regularly helps remove Surya Dosh and other planetary imbalances, enhancing self-confidence, respect, and leadership qualities.
•  It is believed to cure diseases especially related to the eyes, heart, bones, and improve digestive fire and physical energy.

कनक बदन कुण्डल मकर, मुक्तामाला अङ्ग।
पद्मासन स्थित ध्यानिए, शंख चक्र के सङ्ग॥
Kanak badan kundal makar, mukta mala ang.
Padmasan sthit dhyaniye, shankh chakra ke sang.
Meditate on the golden-faced Lord Surya, adorned with earrings and a pearl necklace, seated in lotus posture with conch and discus in hand.

जय सविता जय जयति दिवाकर!
सहस्रांशु! सप्ताश्व तिमिरहर॥
Jai Savita Jai Jayati Divakar!
Sahasranshu! Saptashva Timirhar!
Hail Savita! Hail the shining Sun, who rides a chariot of seven horses and dispels darkness with thousands of rays.
भानु! पतंग! मरीची! भास्कर!
सविता हंस! सुनूर विभाकर॥
Bhanu! Patang! Marichi! Bhaskar!
Savita Hans! Sunur Vibhakar!
You are known as Bhanu, Patang, Marichi, Bhaskar—radiant one, celestial swan, the resplendent light of the Sun!
विवस्वान! आदित्य! विकर्तन।
मार्तण्ड हरिरूप विरोचन॥
Vivaswan! Aditya! Vikartan.
Martand Harirup Virochan.
Vivaswan, Aditya, the splitter of darkness—your radiant form resembles that of Lord Hari.
अम्बरमणि! खग! रवि कहलाते।
वेद हिरण्यगर्भ कह गाते॥
Ambaramani! Khag! Ravi kehlate.
Ved Hiranyagarbh kah gate.
You are the jewel of the sky, the sky-rider, known as Ravi; Vedas praise you as Hiranyagarbha—the golden womb.
सहस्रांशु प्रद्योतन, कहिकहि।
मुनिगन होत प्रसन्न मोदलहि॥
Sahasranshu pradyotan, kahikahi.
Munigan hot prasanna modalahi.
Your thousand rays brighten the cosmos; the sages become pleased at your rising.
अरुण सदृश सारथी मनोहर।
हांकत हय साता चढ़ि रथ पर॥
Arun sadrish saarathi manohar.
Haankat hay saata chadhi rath par.
With charming charioteer Arun, you ride the chariot drawn by seven horses.

 मंडल की महिमा अति न्यारी।
तेज रूप केरी बलिहारी॥
Mandal ki mahima ati nyari.
Tej roop keri balihari.
Your solar disc is supremely glorious; I surrender to your blazing form.
उच्चैःश्रवा सदृश हय जोते।
देखि पुरन्दर लज्जित होते॥
Ucchaishrava sadrish hay jote.
Dekhi Purandar lajjit hote.
Your horses are as majestic as Uchchaihshrava; even Indra feels humbled at their sight.
मित्र मरीचि भानु अरुण भास्कर।
सविता सूर्य अर्क खग कलिकर॥

भानु चालीसा प्रेम युत, गावहिं जे नर नित्य।

Sukh sampatti lahi bibidh, hohin sada krtkritya.

द्वादस नाम प्रेम सों गावैं।
मस्तक बारह बार नवावैं॥
Dwaadas naam prem so gaavai,
Mastak baarah baar navaavai.

चार पदारथ जन सो पावै।
दुःख दारिद्र अघ पुंज नसावै॥
Chaar padarath jan so paavai,
Dukh daridra agh punj nasaavai.

नमस्कार को चमत्कार यह।
विधि हरिहर को कृपासार यह॥
Namaskaar ko chamatkaar yeh,
Vidhi Harihar ko kripa-saar yeh.

सेवै भानु तुम्हिं मन लाई।
अष्ट सिद्धि नवनिधि तेहिं पाई॥
Sevai Bhanu tumhi man laai,
Asht siddhi navnidhi tehi paai.
Whoever worships you with devotion receives eight spiritual powers and nine types of wealth.

बारह नाम उच्चारन करते।
सहस जनम के पातक टरते॥
Barah naam uchchaaran karte,
Sahas janam ke paatak tarte.
Reciting your twelve names removes sins of a thousand lifetimes.

उपाख्यान जो करते तवजन।
रिपु सों जमलहते सोतेहि छन॥
Upakhyaan jo karte tav jan,
Ripu so jam lahate sotehi chhan.
Those who narrate your tales, O Lord, defeat their enemies and even death instantly.

धन सुत जुत परिवार बढ़तु है।
प्रबल मोह को फंद कटतु है॥
Dhan sut jut parivaar badhatu hai,
Prabal moh ko phand katatu hai.
Their wealth, children, and family grow, and the noose of worldly attachment is cut.

अर्क शीश को रक्षा करते।
रवि ललाट पर नित्य बिहरते॥
Ark sheesh ko raksha karte,
Ravi lalat par nitya biharate.
Surya protects the head and always radiates from the forehead.

सूर्य नेत्र पर नित्य विराजत।
कर्ण देस पर दिनकर छाजत॥
Surya netra par nitya virajat,
Karna desh par dinkar chhaajat.
The Sun resides in the eyes, and shines near the ears.

भानु नासिका वास करहु नित।
भास्कर करत सदा मुख को हित॥
Bhanu naasika vaas karahu nit,
Bhaskar karat sada mukh ko hit.
Bhanu resides in the nose, and Bhaskar always brings grace to the face.

ओंठ रहें पर्जन्य हमारे।
रसना बीच तीक्ष्ण बस प्यारे॥
Oth rahen Parjanya hamaare,
Rasna beech Teekshna bas pyaare.
Let Parjanya reside on my lips, and dear Teekshna on my tongue for strength and speech.

कंठ सुवर्ण रेत की शोभा।
तिग्म तेजसः कांधे लोभा॥
Kanth Suvarn Ret ki shobha,
Tigm Tejasah kandhe lobha.
The golden Sun shines at the throat, and blazing Tejas (radiance) adorns the shoulders.

पूषां बाहू मित्र पीठहिं पर।
त्वष्टा वरुण रहत सुउष्णकर॥
Pushaan baahoo, Mitra peethahin par,
Tvashta Varun rahat su-ushnkar.
Pusha stays in the arms, Mitra on the back, Tvashta and Varuna reside as warm protectors.

युगल हाथ पर रक्षा कारन।
भानुमान उरसर्म सुउदरचन॥
Yugal haath par raksha kaaran,
Bhanumaan ur-sarm su-udarachan.
Both hands are protected by Bhanu; he also guards the chest and the well-shaped belly.

बसत नाभि आदित्य मनोहर।
कटिमंह, रहत मन मुदभर॥
Basat naabhi Aditya manohar,
Katimah rahat man mudbhar.
Beautiful Aditya resides at the navel, and at the waist bringing joy to the mind.

जंघा गोपति सविता बासा।
गुप्त दिवाकर करत हुलासा॥
Jangha Gopati Savita baasa,
Gupt Divakar karat hulasa.
Savita (Sun) dwells in the thighs, and the hidden parts are protected by the shining Divakar.

विवस्वान पद की रखवारी।
बाहर बसते नित तम हारी॥
Vivaswaan pad ki rakhvaari,
Baahar baste nit tam haari.
Vivaswan guards the feet and stays around as the eternal destroyer of darkness.

सहस्रांशु सर्वांग सम्हारै।
रक्षा कवच विचित्र विचारे॥
Sahasranshu sarvaang samhaare,
Raksha kavach vichitra vichaare.
The thousand-rayed Surya protects the entire body—this protective armor is most wondrous.

अस जो जन अपने मन माहीं।
भय जगबीच करहुं तेहि नाहीं॥
As jo jan apne man maahin,
Bhay jagbeech karahu tehi naahin.
He who holds this in his heart shall never fear, even in the middle of the world’s dangers.

दद्रु कुष्ठ तेहि कबहुँ न व्यापै।
जोजन याको मन मंह जापै॥
Dadr kushth tehi kabahoon na vyaapai,
Jojan yaako man mah jaapai.
Leprosy or skin diseases shall never affect the one who repeats this divine armor in mind.

अंधकार जग का जो हरता।
नव प्रकाश से आनन्द भरता॥
Andhkaar jag ka jo harta,
Nav prakaash se anand bharta.
He removes the darkness of the world and fills it with new radiant joy.

ग्रह गण ग्रसि न मिटावत जाही।
कोटि बार मैं प्रनवौं ताही॥
Grah gan grasi na mitavat jaahi,
Koti baar main pranavau taahi.
No planet or force can eclipse him; I bow to him a million times.

मंद सदृश सुत जग में जाके।
धर्मराज सम अद्भुत बांके॥
Mand sadrish sut jag mein jaake,
Dharmaraj sam adbhut baanke.
His son Shani is slow-moving, majestic like Dharmaraj, and awe-inspiring.

धन्य-धन्य तुम दिनमनि देवा।
किया करत सुरमुनि नर सेवा॥
Dhanya-dhanya tum Dinmani Deva,
Kiya karat surmuni nar seva.
O Sun God! You are most glorious—worshipped by gods, sages, and men alike.

भक्ति भाव युत पूर्ण नियम सों।
दूर हटत सो भव के भ्रम सों॥
Bhakti bhaav yut poorn niyam son,
Door hatat so bhav ke bhram son.
Worshipping you with discipline and devotion removes all delusions of worldly bondage.

परम धन्य सो नर तनधारी।
हैं प्रसन्न जेहि पर तम हारी॥
Param dhanya so nar tandhaari,
Hain prasann jehi par tam haari.
Blessed is the human who earns your grace, O destroyer of darkness!

अरुण माघ महं सूर्य फाल्गुन।
मधु वेदांग नाम रवि उदयन॥
Arun Maagh mahan Surya Phalgun,
Madhu Vedang naam Ravi udayan.
In Maagh, you are Arun; in Phalgun, Surya; in Chaitra (Madhu), you rise as Vedang.

भानु उदय बैसाख गिनावै।
ज्येष्ठ इन्द्र आषाढ़ रवि गावै॥
Bhanu uday Baisaakh ginavaai,
Jyeshth Indra Ashadh Ravi gaavai.
In Baisakh, you rise as Bhanu; in Jyeshtha, as Indra; and in Ashadh, again as Ravi.

यम भादों आश्विन हिमरेता।
कातिक होत दिवाकर नेता॥
Yam Bhadon Ashwin Himreta,
Kartik hot Divakar neta.
In Bhadrapad, you are Yama; in Ashwin, Himreta; and in Kartik, Divakar the leader.

अगहन भिन्न विष्णु हैं पूसहिं।
पुरुष नाम रवि हैं मलमासहिं॥
Agahan bhinn Vishnu hain Poosahin,
Purush naam Ravi hain Malmaasahin.
In Agahan, you are Vishnu; in Paush, too. During Malmaas, you are called Purush Ravi.
