Introduction

  • Shri Ram Chalisa is a sacred 40-verse hymn composed in praise of Lord Ram, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Shri Ram Chalisa

चौपाई:

श्री रघुबीर भक्त हितकारी। सुनि लीजै प्रभु अरज हमारी।

Shri Raghubeer Bhakt Hitkaari. Suni Lije Prabhu Araj Hamaari.
O Lord Raghubeer, protector of your devotees, please hear my humble prayer.

निशि दिन ध्यान धरै जो कोई। ता सम भक्त और नहीं होई।

Nishi Din Dhyaan Dharai Jo Koi. Taa Sam Bhakt Aur Nahi Hoi.
Whoever meditates upon you day and night, there is no greater devotee than him.

ध्यान धरें शिवजी मन मांही। ब्रह्मा, इंद्र पार नहीं पाहीं।
Dhyaan Dharen Shivji Man Maanhi. Brahma, Indra Paar Nahi Paahin.
Even Lord Shiva keeps you in his mind, and Brahma, Indra can't reach your greatness.

दूत तुम्हार वीर हनुमान। जासु प्रभाव तिहुं पुर जाना।

Doot Tumhaar Veer Hanumaan. Jasu Prabhaav Tihun Pur Jaana.
Your great messenger is Hanuman, whose glory is known across all three worlds.

जय, जय, जय रघुनाथ कृपाला। सदा करो संतन प्रतिपाला।

Jai, Jai, Jai Raghunath Kripala. Sada Karo Santan Pratipala.
Victory to you, Raghunath the merciful, always protector of the saints.

तुव भुजदण्ड प्रचण्ड कृपाला। रावण मारि सुरन प्रतिपाला।
Tuv Bhujdand Prachand Kripala. Ravan Maari Suran Pratipala.
With your mighty arms, O merciful one, you killed Ravan and protected the gods.

तुम अनाथ के नाथ गोसाईं। दीनन के हो सदा सहाई।
Tum Anaath Ke Naath Gosaain. Deenan Ke Ho Sada Sahaai.
You are the Lord of the helpless, always the savior of the meek.

ब्रह्मादिक तव पार न पावैं। सदा ईश तुम्हरो यश गावैं।

Brahmadik Tav Paar Na Paavein. Sada Eesh Tumharo Yash Gaavein.
Even Brahma and other gods cannot know your limits, they always sing your praises.

चारिउ भेद भरत हैं साखी। तुम भक्तन की लज्जा राखी।
Chariyu Bhed Bharat Hain Saakhi. Tum Bhaktan Ki Lajja Raakhi.
Bharat is witness to all four Vedas’ essence, you always protect your devotees’ honor.

गुण गावत शारद मन माहीं। सुरपति ताको पार न पाहिं।

Gun Gaavat Sharad Man Maahin. Surpati Taako Paar Na Paahin.
Saraswati sings your glory in her heart, but even Indra cannot comprehend it.

नाम तुम्हार लेत जो कोई। ता सम धन्य और नहीं होई।
Naam Tumhaar Let Jo Koi. Taa Sam Dhanya Aur Nahi Hoi.
One who chants your name is most blessed and fortunate.

राम नाम है अपरम्पारा। चारिहु वेदन जाहि पुकारा।
Ram Naam Hai Aparampaaraa. Charihu Vedan Jaahi Pukaaraa.
The name of Ram is infinite; all four Vedas call upon it.

गणपति नाम तुम्हारो लीन्हो। तिनको प्रथम पूज्य तुम कीन्हो।
Ganpati Naam Tumhaaro Leenho. Tinko Pratham Pujya Tum Keenho.
Even Ganapati invoked your name; you made him the foremost to be worshipped.

शेष रटत नित नाम तुम्हारा। महि को भार शीश पर धारा।
Shesh Ratat Nit Naam Tumhaara. Mahi Ko Bhaar Sheesh Par Dhaara.
Sheshnag chants your name constantly and bears the Earth on his head.

फूल समान रहत सो भारा। पावत कोऊ न तुम्हरो पारा।
Phool Samaan Rahat So Bhaaraa. Paavat Koyu Na Tumharo Paaraa.
Even that load feels like a flower, yet none can comprehend your greatness.

भरत नाम तुम्हरो उर धारो। तासों कबहूं न रण में हारो।
Bharat Naam Tumharo Ur Dhaarho. Taaso Kabahun Na Ran Mein Haarho.
He who holds your name like Bharat, never loses in battle.

नाम शत्रुहन हृदय प्रकाशा। सुमिरत होत शत्रु कर नाशा।
Naam Shatrughan Hriday Prakaasha. Sumirat Hot Shatru Kar Naasha.
Shatrughna meditated on your name and destroyed enemies with its power.

लखन तुम्हारे आज्ञाकारी। सदा करत सन्तन रखवारी।
Lakhan Tumhaare Aagyaakaari. Sada Karat Santan Rakhvaari.
Lakshman obeyed your commands and always protected the saints.

ताते रण जीते नहिं कोई। युद्ध जुरे यमहूं किन होई।
Taate Ran Jeete Nahin Koi. Yuddh Jure Yamhoon Kin Hoi.
Thus no one could defeat you in war; even Yamraj wouldn't dare.

महालक्ष्मी धर अवतारा। सब विधि करत पाप को छारा।
Mahalakshmi Dhar Avtaara. Sab Vidhi Karat Paap Ko Chaara.
You incarnated with Mahalakshmi and destroyed all kinds of sins.

सीता राम पुनीता गायो। भुवनेश्वरी प्रभाव दिखायो।
Sita Ram Puneeta Gaayo. Bhuvaneshwari Prabhaav Dikhaayo.
Sita-Ram were sung as sacred; Bhuvaneshwari revealed her divine powers.

घट सों प्रकट भई सो आई। जाको देखत चन्द्र लजाई।
Ghat Son Prakat Bhayi So Aayi. Jaako Dekhat Chandra Lajaayi.
She emerged from a pot with such radiance that even the moon felt shy.

जो तुम्हरे नित पांव पलोटत। नवो निद्धि चरणन में लोटत।
Jo Tumhare Nit Paav Palotat. Navo Niddhi Charanan Mein Lotat.
One who massages your feet daily, gains all nine treasures at your feet.

सिद्धि अठारह मंगलकारी। सो तुम पर जावै बलिहारी।
Siddhi Atharah Mangalkaari. So Tum Par Jaavai Balihaari.
All eighteen kinds of success bow down to you in reverence.

औरहु जो अनेक प्रभुताई। सो सीतापति तुम्हिं बनाई।
Aaurahu Jo Anek Prabhutaai. So Sitaapati Tumhin Banaai.
All other powers and greatness, O consort of Sita, are your creations.

इच्छा ते कोटिन संसारा। रचत न लागत पल की बारा।
Ichchha Te Kotiin Sansaara. Rachat Na Laagat Pal Ki Baara.
From your wish, millions of universes emerge in a moment.

जो तुम्हरे चरणन चित लावै। ताकी मुक्ति अवसि हो जावै।
Jo Tumhare Charanan Chit Laavai. Taaki Mukti Avas Hi Ho Jaavai.
One who focuses on your feet certainly attains salvation.

सुनहु राम तुम तात हमारे। तुम्हहिं भरत कुल पूज्य प्रचारे।
Sunahu Ram Tum Taat Hamaare. Tumhin Bharat Kul Pujya Prachaare.
O Ram, listen! You are worshipped and honored in the Bharat dynasty.

तुमहिं देव कुल देव हमारे। तुम गुरु देव प्राण के प्यारे।
Tumhin Dev Kul Dev Hamaare. Tum Guru Dev Praan Ke Pyaare.
You are the God of all gods, the dearest teacher and life force.

जो कुछ हो सो तुम्हहिं राजा। जय जय जय प्रभु राखो लाजा।
Jo Kuch Ho So Tumhin Raajaa. Jai Jai Jai Prabhu Rakho Laajaa.
Whatever exists, you are the king of it all. O Lord, protect my honor!

॥ दोहा ॥

सात दिवस जो नेम कर, पाठ करे चित लाय। हरिदास हरि कृपा से, अवसि भक्ति को पाय॥
Saat Divas Jo Nem Kar, Paath Kare Chit Laay. Haridaas Hari Kripa Se, Avasi Bhakti Ko Paay.
Whoever recites this Chalisa for seven days with devotion shall surely receive Lord Hari’s blessings and attain true devotion.

राम चालीसा जो पढ़े, राम चरण चित लाय। जो इच्छा मन में करै, सकल सिद्ध हो जाय॥
Ram Chalisa Jo Padhe, Ram Charan Chit Laay. Jo Ichchha Man Mein Karai, Sakal Siddh Ho Jaay.
Whoever recites this Ram Chalisa with devotion to Lord Ram’s feet will find all their desires fulfilled.
